Our heart warms when we imagine that a new game in the franchise that we love so much is being developed after a long time without news.
But it's real, guys. Dallas Dickinson, general manager of the Tomb Raider franchise at Crystal Dynamics, revealed during the State of Unreal showcase that a new game is being developed completely in Unreal Engine 5.
With this technology, Epic promises that the world of games will be rendered in real time and with rich details and high fidelity, with a range of at least 60 FPS. In addition, there will be features aimed at dynamic lighting and also a micro-polygon geometry system that creates an amount of geometric detail, which contributes to the game's level of reality. They are known as Lumen and Nanite, respectively.
In the newly released video, Dickinson explains more about Tomb Raider:
Crystal Dynamics is proud to be a part of the UE5 launch. This new engine translates to a higher level of storytelling and gameplay experiences. That's why we're excited to announce today that we've just started development on our next Tomb Raider game , powered by Unreal Engine 5. Our goal is to deliver the high-quality fidelity and cinematic action-adventure experience that fans deserve, from both Crystal Dynamics and the Tomb Raider franchise.
With this change in technology, the new Tomb Raider game will feature even closer-to-real graphics, even more refined gameplay and combat, and the player experience taken to the next level.
We still don't have news about the story of this new game. Will it be a new trilogy? Will we see Lara Croft completely revamped or just minor tweaks? Which tombs will our favorite adventurer raid this time? Will Lara finally come with some references to the classic character, like the braid, for example?
So far, we don't know. But what we do know is that the official logo of the new game was released, which directly refers to the logo of classic games. In fact, part of the box behind the word “Raider” may be referring to a pyramid block. Will the new game take place in Egypt again?
Well, until more information comes out, we will remain here excited about this game that promises a lot.
