It is not news that Tomb Raider’s sequel, from 2018, with Alicia Vikander, is not going to be produced any time soon, especially after MGM lost the rights.
But, even so, there are many ideas for the sequel that are ready to be developed. Proof of this was shared by the artist Jake Lunt David, who tweeted a canceled storyboard, where we can see a group of bandits invading the Croft Manor during a rainy night.
This could be an homage to a scene from the 2001 film, starring Angelina Jolie, where a group of bandits invaded the manor to steal an important artifact.
These bandits appear to be Trinity's people, a clandestine organization that Lara Croft would have faced on feature film. Such a film may have held many references to the last two games from the trilogy: Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, respectively.
The canceled sequel had already included a screenplay draft that was delivered to the studio, with a possible title: Tomb Raider - Obsidian.
Unfortunately, even now, we don't have any positive news. However, now Embracer Group has the rights and they are developing a new adventure within the Unreal 5 engine. So, in all likelihood, you will soon hear great news about a new movie. Afterall, Lara Croft deserves to return to the big screen to show why she came to the world. And we, as fans, appreciate all her beauty.
